India trade expert to keynote World Trade Day
Ron Somers, an expert on trade with India, will keynote the Kentucky World Trade Center’s World Trade Day 2008, set for Nov. 5 at the Lexington Center. He will present A Case for Deeper U.S.-India Ties: Challenges and Opportunities during the gala dinner.
Somers is president of the U.S.-India Business Council, an organization formed in 1975 to strengthen commercial ties and deepen two-way trade between the nations. The council partners with leading industry and trade associations in India and serves as a direct link between business and government leaders.
Somers’ appearance in Kentucky is particularly timely. The U.S. Commerce Department reports that, although still a small part of the state’s overall export activity, Kentucky businesses are doing more business with India.
In fact, Kentucky’s exports to India increased by more than 51 percent between 2006 and 2007, the federal agency notes.
